Happy Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the traditional end of summer. The last chance to go crazy at the lake before the weather cools off.
Not knowing much about the history of Labor day, I decided to do some googling.
Labor day is observed on the first Monday of September and was originated in 1882 by the Central Labor Union of New York City who sought to create a day off for working citizens. As the Industrial Revolution took hold of the nation, the average American worked 12 hour days, seven day a week. Children were also working providing cheap labor with virtually no child labor laws to protect them.
With long hours and horrible working conditions, American Unions became more prominent and voiced their demands for better working conditions. On Tuesday, September 5th, 1882, 10,000 workers marched from city hall to Union Square in New York City, holding the first ever Labor Day Parade. Participants took an unpaid day off to honor the workers of America. Congress legalized the holiday 12 year later.
No matter how challenging the Real Estate market becomes, I still have the greatest job in the greatest country.
Happy Labor Day.
